How to capture the two inventories
- Open File Audit Lab, select the project folder and download Inventory JSON.
- Keep that file outside the selected project folder. After your work, select the same root folder again and export a second Inventory JSON.
- Choose the two files above. Review the findings; export a complete report below.
The existing free tool hashes same-size candidates only when requested. Many records have no hash. This comparator does not read the original files or calculate missing hashes.
What a result can and cannot prove
Matching metadata never proves identical content. “Supplied hashes match” means the two inventories contain the same SHA-256 string; the underlying files are not independently verified here. Paths are case-sensitive and Unicode-sensitive. Different root names are not automatically removed. Moves and renames appear as a missing path plus an added path.
Missing paths can reflect selection differences. A report is not a backup, malware scan or certification. Save sensitive filenames carefully. Only WEBBE-B Inventory JSON is supported; CSV imports and third-party formats are outside this version.
Review before you act.
